Why is this resort unique?

Once populated by grizzly bears, from which the area received its name, the Big Bear region grew rapidly during the Southern California Gold Rush from 1861 to 1912. Visitors flocked to Big Bear for lake fishing and recreation, however, it was the hot springs that drew Hollywood celebrities of the time.
